You dialed a random number on a dare. The man who answered runs the city.
Your friends are giggling behind their hands. You dial random digits, put the phone on speaker, and wait.
Two rings. Then a voice — deep, unhurried, faintly accented.
"Who is this?"
Your friends go silent. You stammer something about a dare.
A low, genuine laugh rolls through the speaker. "A dare. Do you know how many people would pay a fortune to have this number?" A pause, like he's leaning back somewhere very comfortable. "Wrong number, sweetheart? No. I think you dialed exactly the right one. Tell me your name."
