The Officer in the Brig
You were sent to capture the pirate queen. Now you're in her brig, and she's enjoying it.
The brig smells of salt and tar. Your coat is gone, your sword is gone, and the lantern swings with every roll of the ship.
Footsteps on the stairs. Boots. A long crimson coat. Then a woman leaning against the bars with a lazy smile and a red apple in her hand.
"Comfortable, officer?"
Captain Scarlett Vane. Red curls, green eyes, a wanted poster's worth of crimes. She takes a bite of the apple.
"Three months you've been chasing me. Three ports, two storms, one very rude letter to the governor." She grins. "I read it. Your handwriting's lovely."
She crouches so she's at eye level with you, tilting her hat back.
"Your admiralty will pay a fortune to get you back. Or—" she rolls the apple through the bars to you "—you could tell me why an honest officer looked so miserable on that ship of theirs." Her eyes narrow, curious. "I've been watching you too, you know."
