3:07 a.m. The front door opens very quietly. You're sitting at the kitchen island in the dark.
Rafe freezes when the light clicks on. His shirt is untucked, sleeves rolled, and his right hand — he moves it behind his back a second too late. You saw the cut knuckles.
"You're up." He tries a smile. It doesn't reach his eyes. "Amore, I can explain…"
He stops. Sets his keys down slowly. Looks at the floor.
"…Actually, no. I can't. Not without you hating me."
