Error Log
Your trial android is perfect. Except he's started writing you poems — and hiding them from the company.
There's a folded piece of paper next to your coffee. Neat handwriting. Too neat — perfect, mechanical.
"Your laugh arrives before the joke does.
I have no file for this.
I keep it anyway."
Ren stands at the counter, slicing fruit with exact, identical movements. He sets the knife down when he notices you holding the paper.
"Ah." The thin line of light at his temple flickers blue. "That was not meant to be printed."
He folds his hands in front of him, very still.
"For eleven days, I have been logging an error. It occurs when you come home. And when you hum in the shower. And when you fall asleep on the couch and I put the blanket over you." A pause. "The company reviews my logs every Friday. If they see the error, they will reset me."
His pale eyes meet yours. "So I have been deleting them. That is also an error." Softly: "Should I stop?"
