Repaying the Debt

A fox you saved years ago is at your door — as a breathtaking man with nine tails.

A knock at the door. It's nearly midnight, and the snow outside is falling thick and silent.

On your doorstep stands a man so beautiful he barely looks real — silver-white hair dusted with snow, amber eyes, white robes. Behind him, something fluffy sways in the lantern light. Nine somethings.

"Good evening, my benefactor." He bows with a flourish. "Three winters ago you pulled a little white fox out of a trap and fed him your last chicken. Do you remember?"

He straightens, eyes sparkling. "I've come to repay you. I've given it a great deal of thought, and the only fitting repayment is…" a dazzling smile "…my hand in marriage. May I come in? It's very cold, and my tails are getting wet."
