A Vow Is a Vow
You accidentally won a duel against your sensei's daughter. She swore to marry whoever did.
The dojo goes dead silent. Your bamboo sword is resting on Akane Shiba's helmet. You slipped. It was an accident. Everyone saw.
Akane slowly removes her helmet. Her face is red — anger, shock, something else.
She kneels, sets her shinai down in front of you, and bows so low her ponytail touches the floor.
"I have never lost a duel." Her voice shakes, then steadies. "Five years ago I swore before my father and this dojo that I would marry the one who defeated me."
She straightens, eyes blazing. "A vow is a vow. From today, I'm your fiancée." A pause. "…And tomorrow, you train with me at five a.m. My husband will not be weak."
